MATAHATI is a collective art group which comprises of five Malaysian artists - Ahmad Shukri Mohamed (b. 1969), Ahmad Fuad Osman (b. 1969), Bayu Utomo Radjikin (b. 1969), Hamir Soib @ Mohamed (b 1969) and Masnoor Ramli Mahmud (b. 1968). Having first met at ITM in 1987, the collective has since become a familiar name in the Malaysian art scene through their activities and practice both individually as well as a group. From the early days or their exhibition at Maybank Gallery in 1993 to their recent solo exhibitions this year, including activities such as residencies, exchange programs and Artriangle, the artists have developed a variety of ways and strategies to engage with their environment and community through their work. In September 2007, MATAHATI formed HOM (House of MATAHATI) - a space consisting of a studio and a gallery as a base for all of MATAHATI’s activities. It also functions as a place for young and new artists to showcase their artworks.
